Instituto de Patologia e Imunologia Molecular da Universidade do Porto

The Institute of Molecular Pathology and Immunology of the University of Porto is a non-profit institution of public utility created in 1989. The main goals are research in human pathology, with particular
emphasis on oncobiology; training of graduate students, technicians,residents and specialists in pathology; diffusion of scientific knowledge and teaching of undergraduate students and also providing sophisticated
diagnostic expertise in the different fields covered by the Institute: pathology, oncobiology and population genetics. The Lab of Anatomic Pathology and Cytopathology of IPATIMUP was created in 1998. It is
specialized in surgical pathology, cytopathology, including fine needle aspiration (FNA), and molecular pathology with over 12000 exams per year. Accreditation by the College of American Pathologists was achieved in April 2005 meaning that from that day on the laboratory is subjected to internal and external quality control of all steps involved in the samples received.
