Founded in 1887, it is the oldest institute of medical science in Romania. Nowadays, “Victor Babes” National Institute is the leading research institute in Romania in the fields of pathology, immunology, genetics, cellular and molecular medicine. Research fields of the Pathology Department include: immunohistochemistry and molecular biology of malignant tumors (breast, liver, lung, head and neck, malignant lymphomas), molecular biology of infectious diseases (tuberculosis, HPV, EBV ). The diagnostic activity is represented by ~25000 histopathological, immunohistochemical and molecular analyses performed annually. The training activity is represented by courses and practice for medical students, PhD students, residents in pathology, pathologists and technicians. Accredited by the Romanian Accreditation Association ISO 15189 since 2009.
